Everything about the magazine speaks to the excitement of social transformation that is at the heart of the University and its mission. And so classily! I and several of my emeriti colleagues noted that when it arrived in the mail we first thought it might be some kind of downtown business promotion and then realized with pride that it was about our University. Chicano power is real. I have been a witness. I have been a beneficiary. When one oppressed community stands up, it is an affirmation and cause for celebration among all oppressed communities. It is right and fitting during Black History Month to acknowledge and celebrate those moments of greatest common cause and conscious collaborative action between and among Black and Brown communities. The Blowouts is one such moment. Que viva!
